Free Medical Camp Brings Vital Care to Remote Wayanad Tribal Hamlet

A team of healthcare professionals delivered essential medical services to the isolated tribal community of Nedungode village in Wayanad district, Kerala, on Saturday, March 8 2026.

Dr Ageesh MD, a general medicine specialist, alongside nurse Mrs Nisha and lab technician Ms Reshma, conducted the free camp for residents of the Paniya and Kurichya tribes. These communities, numbering around 48 patients including pregnant women and new mothers with infants, rely on agriculture and animal husbandry for their livelihoods in the remote hamlet.

Services included clinical consultations and free distribution of medicines. Four elderly patients, unable to travel independently, were transported from the colony to a nearby hospital for intravenous drips and diagnostic tests.

The initiative highlights the challenges faced by marginalised tribal groups in accessing healthcare amid Wayanad’s rugged terrain. Dr Ageesh said: “Our aim was to bridge the gap for those who rarely see a doctor, providing immediate relief and follow-up care.”

Local residents expressed gratitude for the outreach, which addressed common ailments like infections and nutritional deficiencies prevalent in the area.
