Medical Mission Reaches Indigenous Agrarian Enclave in Eachome

A clinical contingent from Amrita Kripa Charitable Hospital, Kaipetta, Wayanad, delivers primary diagnoses, pediatric attention, and essential pharmaceuticals to the paddy-working families of Thanneervayal.

Against the backdrop of mist-shrouded paddy fields and wetland plantations in the Western Ghats, a dedicated medical outreach contingent from Kochi and Kalpetta brought specialized primary care directly to the Thanneervayal Tribal Colony at Eachome on Thursday.

The humanitarian healthcare initiative provided comprehensive health evaluations, acute diagnostics, and free prescription dispensing to more than 50 community members, spanning infants, working mothers, and elderly residents.

The medical camp was led by Dr. Keerthana, MBBS, supported by an experienced clinical team from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Edappally, Kochi. Assisting in patient triage and preliminary screenings were Physician Assistant Amrutha, along with medical interns Anamika and Anupama.

The tribal community of Eachome relies predominantly on wet-land paddy cultivation and seasonal vegetable farming. Daily labor in waterlogged soils routinely exposes workers to occupational hazards, including musculoskeletal disorders, fungal dermatitis, vector-borne fevers, and chronic fatigue.

Essential nursing interventions, wound management, and vital checks were handled by staff nurses Vineetha and Bindu, while paramedical staff member Jisha facilitated patient navigation and triage. Pharmacist Nisha oversaw on-site dispensary logistics, providing complete medication regimens—including antibiotics, analgesics, pediatric formulations, and nutritional supplements, along with counseling tailored to the villagers’ daily routines.

Community elders at Thanneervayal expressed appreciation for the initiative, noting that distance and challenging terrain often deter residents from seeking medical attention until ailments become severe. For community members engaged daily in waterlogged agrarian labor, timely clinical intervention is not merely routine medicine – it is an essential safeguard for their livelihood and well-being.
