Healing in the Hills: Medical Camp Brings Vital Healthcare to Chithramoola’s Tribal and Rural Communities
Bringing essential healthcare directly to the doorsteps of remote communities, the Chithramoola medical camp delivered vital screenings, chronic disease management, and free medicines to tribal and non-tribal residents alike.

Tucked away in the undulating green terrain of Wayanad, accessing routine healthcare can often be a logistical hurdle for remote communities. Addressing this gap, a dedicated multidisciplinary medical team recently set up camp in Chithramoola, bringing essential health screenings, consultations, and free medicines directly to 25 tribal and non-tribal residents.
Held on October 23, 2026, the outreach initiative aimed to bridge healthcare disparities in the region, offering comprehensive medical evaluations to an underserved population where lifestyle and chronic conditions often go unmonitored.
A Comprehensive Health Outreach
Led by Tele medicine consultation Dr. Keerthana, MBBS, alongside a committed clinical and support team, the camp provided a full spectrum of primary care services tailored to the community’s immediate needs:
Clinical & Diagnostic Screenings: The team conducted anthropometric measurements (weight checks), biochemical evaluations including Random Blood Sugar (GRBS) tests, and vital sign monitoring (pulse and blood pressure).
Case Reviews & Referrals: Practitioners carefully reviewed existing medication lists, provided direct consultations, and coordinated immediate referrals for patients requiring higher-level specialized care.
Holistic Support: Pharmacists Lolajshi and Nisha, alongside Nurse/health workers Usha and Amita, Driver Pradeep ensured seamless medicine dispensing and supervision. They were supported by Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPA) interns Vaishnavi Nagaraj and Malavika VU, who assisted in patient assessments, coordination, and lifestyle counseling.
Preventive Care & Free Medicine: Beyond treating immediate ailments, the team emphasized preventive health, offering actionable dietary and lifestyle modification counseling. All prescribed medications were distributed free of charge to ease financial barriers.
Addressing Local Health Challenges
The day’s consultations highlighted a familiar rural health profile, with healthcare providers diagnosing and managing a range of prevalent conditions:
Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus topped the chronic diagnoses, underscoring the critical need for ongoing rural screening programs to prevent long-term cardiovascular complications.
Musculoskeletal & Acute Issues: Lower Back Ache (LBA) was frequently reported, alongside acute presentations such as fevers, headaches, Upper Respiratory Infections (URI), and coughs.
Initiatives like the Chithramoola camp underscore the profound impact of grassroots medical outreach in marginalized pockets of Wayanad, ensuring that quality healthcare remains a fundamental right rather than a geographic privilege.
