Mental Health Awareness

Ms. Usha and Ms. Leena, volunteers from the Department of Mental Health Program under the District Medical Officer, Wayanad, conducted an awareness session at Amrita Kripa Charitable Hospital on June 27, 2025. The session was attended by psychiatric patients, their caretakers, and other patients of the hospital.

During the session, the volunteers emphasised that medication alone is not sufficient for psychiatric patients. They highlighted the importance of a holistic approach, which includes ensuring proper nutrition, adequate sleep, and a supportive environment. Caretakers were encouraged to engage in regular interactions with patients and to discuss the patients’ progress with clinical psychology counsellors.

Additionally, the volunteers stressed the need to provide a stress-free atmosphere for patients and advised against the use of alcohol and drugs. The session was well-received, with both the Friday Clinic doctors and counsellors present as observers.
