Access to essential healthcare reached one of the region’s most isolated populations on Aug 13, as a specialized medical team conducted a comprehensive health camp at the Narokadav tribal colony in Vellamunda village, near Manathavady in the Western Ghats of Kerala.

​The initiative held aimed to bridge the persistent healthcare gap faced by indigenous communities living in the dense terrain of the Western Ghats. The clinical team provided free diagnostic evaluations, preventive health screenings, and necessary prescription medications to dozens of residents who typically face significant geographic and financial barriers to medical care.

​The outreach effort was led by Dr. Keerthana MBBS, from Amrita Kripa Charitable Hospital, Kalpetta, Wayanad, who performed primary health assessments, identified chronic ailments, and offered consultations tailored to the specific health needs of the colony’s residents.

​Dr. Keerthana was supported on-site by a dedicated clinical care team, including staff nurse Anjana, who managed patient triage, basic diagnostics, and preliminary care, and pharmacist Jisha, who oversaw the safe dispensation of essential drugs and educated patients on proper dosage regimens.

​The camp focused heavily on treating common regional afflictions, including seasonal infections, nutritional deficiencies, and joint pain, while also screening for non-communicable conditions like hypertension. Organizers noted that bringing qualified professionals and pharmaceutical supplies directly into the settlement ensures that treatment plans are started immediately without requiring patients to undertake arduous journeys to urban hospital centers.

​Community leaders at Manathavady and residents of Narokadav welcomed the initiative, highlighting the critical relief such targeted medical programs bring to vulnerable populations. The hospital team plans to use the diagnostic data gathered during the camp to organise follow-up visits and ensure sustained care for residents requiring ongoing treatment.
