Bridging the Health Gap: Amrita Kripa Hospital Delivers Vital Medical and Nutritional Care to Wayanad Tribal Community
Tackling healthcare inequality at the grassroots, a targeted medical outreach programme is bringing vital clinical care and sustainable dietary education directly to Wayanad’s marginalized tribal communities.

In a concerted effort to address health disparities and provide critical frontline care, the Amrita Kripa Charitable Hospital of Kalpetta successfully mobilized a comprehensive medical and nutritional health camp at the Narokadav tribal colony near Meenangadi on Thursday, 17 September.
The initiative underscores a growing recognition of the need for accessible, community-based healthcare in Kerala’s rural and marginalized districts. Taking a holistic approach to wellbeing, the camp combined immediate clinical intervention with sustainable, culturally appropriate preventative care.
Leading the clinical team, Dr. Keerthana MBBS conducted thorough medical examinations of the colony’s residents, diagnosing ailments and outlining necessary treatment plans. The medical intervention was supported seamlessly by a dedicated nursing and pharmacy team. Nurses Vineetha and Reshma managed patient care on the ground, while pharmacists Jisha and Sudha ensured that all prescribed medicines were dispensed immediately and free of charge to the patients.
Crucially, the operation drew on the expertise of the next generation of healthcare professionals from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) in Kochi, reflecting a collaborative model of public health outreach. Ms. Anamika, a BPA intern from AIMS, provided foundational triage support, carefully monitoring and recording essential vitals—including height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure—to establish accurate health baselines for the attending physician.
In a move that highlights a progressive shift toward sustainable health practices, the camp placed a heavy emphasis on dietary education. AIMS Kochi MSc Nutrition interns Moin, Aswedhar, and Anugrah spearheaded personalized counseling sessions for the residents. Rather than prescribing inaccessible or generalized diets, the nutrition team focused strictly on the integration of healthy, locally sourced foods. This culturally sensitive approach empowers residents to combat malnutrition and manage chronic conditions using the region’s indigenous agricultural resources.
By combining acute medical care with sustainable nutritional advocacy, the Amrita Kripa Charitable Hospital continues its mandate to deliver equitable, dignified health services to Wayanad’s most vulnerable populations.
