A dedicated medical team and nutritionists from Amrita Kripa Charitable Hospital brought vital diagnostic care, food guidance, and free supplies directly to the rural community of Edaguni this week.

Healthcare workers and clinical nutritionists gathered at Raroth Unnathi in Edaguni on 15 September 2026 to deliver targeted medical care and dietary counsel to local residents, addressing persistent gaps in rural health equity.

Organised by the Amrita Kripa Charitable Hospital, Kalpetta, the single-day outreach initiative combined direct clinical intervention with sustainable food advocacy, prioritising accessible, community-centred wellness.

Dr Keerthana MBBS, a general practitioner at AKCH, spent the day running frontline clinical consultations, assessing complex chronic conditions and dispensing targeted prescriptions to meet the immediate healthcare needs of the local community. On-site dispensary services and patient support were managed by pharmacists Jisha and Sudha, alongside nursing staff Vineetha and Reshma, who coordinated vital checks and treatment distribution.

Recognising that preventative care relies heavily on everyday sustenance, the initiative incorporated a dedicated nutritional awareness drive led by MSc Nutrition interns from the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi. Trainee nutritionists Moin, Aswedhar, and Anugrah distributed eggs directly to attendees to tackle common protein deficits, while facilitating open discussions on the protective value of indigenous village produce. Rather than recommending expensive, processed supplements, the team championed cost-effective, nutrient-dense local staples readily grown in the surrounding landscape.

The programme was convened on the ground by community health worker Mr Haridas, whose local coordination ensured high participation across vulnerable households.

The camp forms part of a broader ongoing push across the district to decentralise medical expertise, taking hospital-grade diagnostic care and practical health education out of regional centres and directly to village doorsteps.
