Amrita Sanskrit Higher Secondary School
At Parippally, Kollam is one of Kerala’s biggest schools that teach Sanskrit as the first language. In 1992 when the Government first introduced higher secondary courses in the private sector, ASHSS was the only school offering Sanskrit as one of the optional languages. The school has one of the highest percentage of pass outs in the State level exam, making ASHSS one of the top schools in the state.
This is a remarkable achievement for a school where the majority of its students come from the most socially and economically disadvantaged sections of society. Students from the tribal hamlets receive the opportunity to complete their schooling free of cost.
Computer courses:
Training is offered to students in a variety of office applications after laying a foundation in basic computer education. Apart from learning to use computers for documentation applications, animation packages and photo editting softwares, students also get to learn professional Desktop Publishing. There is also a computer hardware maintenance course.
Tailoring courses:
Stitching, needle work and tailoring is being trained for the Tribal women. They are being taught to stitch the ladies and children dresses.
Tablet education programme:
Students receive the opportunity to learn their school syllabus content and conduct lab experiments using innovative course delivery platforms like tablets. Tablets have been supplied to the students free of cost.
Manufacturing domestic products:
Training is provided on the production of household products such as liquid cleaners, liquid blue and soap powder. The raw materials are distributed among the trainees at the end of the course.
Imitation Jewellery:
Women are trained to hand crafting chain, ear rings, bangles etc. The the raw materials and their hand crafted products were distributed among the trainees for their use.
Tuition classes:
Tuition is offered on a daily basis to students after school hours at halls located in the vicinity of their hamlets. Games items are available in the kept in the tuition centers for the kids.
Distribution of learning implements and resources:
Books and school stationary are provided to students on time to avoid disruption of school schedules and curriculum.
Yoga programmes:
Competent Yoga trainersand physiotherapy professionals offerconsultation and training atTraining & Tuition Centers. Not just tribal folk but settlers too visit the centers for consultation. International Yoga day is celebrated at the Center.
Scholarships:
Financial aids were offered to eligible students and teachers to prevent the drop out from schools.
Teachers day:
Celebrated the teachers day and honoured the trained Tribal teachers with financial assistance, teaching implements and gifts.
Training in traditional art forms:
Training in traditional art forms – Panchavadyam, Koodiyattom, Kadhakali, and Chenda are conducted. The students have secured First prizes in the state level competitions.
