Attappadi Co-operative Farming Society Featured in Prime Minister’s Monthly Radio Broadcast
Attappadi Tribal community members who formed the Attappadi Co-operative Farming Society were featured during the monthly (June) radio broadcast of the Prime Minister of India, Sri Narendra Modi. Titled “Mann Ki Baat” (translated as “A talk on matters of the heart”), is an Indian radio programme hosted by the Prime Minister, in which he addresses Indians on All India Radio, DD National and DD News channels. The purpose of the apolitical program is for the PM to establish a dialogue with the citizens on issues of day-to-day governance, milestones and accomplishments of citizens that could serve as an inspiration to all. Apart from the collective farming initiatives, the Co-operative Society also manufactures umbrellas, books and bags. Amrita Tribal Health Workers Manju, Kaliamma, Sandhya and Remya are members of the collective.
